Forget your TPS reports. Here’s a little sports ranting to get you thru your humpday.

FAVRE SIGNS WITH VIKINGS
favre-lower-left

Cue the circus music, Brett Favre has signed with Minnesota. So Tavaris Jackson will sit and old man Favre will give the Vikings a little more agita than necessary in the 2009 season. Sure this may bring excitement to the Land of 10,000 Lakes for now, but in the long run, this does nothing but delay the progress of a legitimate playoff contender. Chicago will win the NFC North. Will Favre help the Vikings?

VICK GOES TO THE EAGLES
Vick Eagles
To no surprise,  Michael Vick was scooped up earlier this week by the Philadelphia Eagles. This should take some pressure off Donovan McNabb and add some flavor to Philly’s chip-away offense. Don’t forget to cop a #7 Vick jersey for your doggie before they sell out! Giants fans are quietly nervous as they pound their chests after a useless pre-season victory. Do you approve or oppose this move by the Eagles?

WILD CARD RACE BEGINS
Tim Lincecum
The MLB wild card battle is starting to gain traction with Boston, Texas and Tampa Bay battling at 3.5 games apart. The Texas Rangers just picked up Ivan “Pudge” Rodriguez from the Astros in a three player deal. It won’t make a difference as the Rangers fade late and the BoSox will weasel their slimy selves into the post season. Meanwhile, the NL is seeing a closer race b/t Colorado, San Francisco and Florida within 2. Atlanta and Chicago are not far behind. I like the Giants pitching to carry the team into October. Which teams will make it into the MLB postseason?

MALIGNAGGI SET TO FIGHT DIAZ
Diaz vs. Malignaggi nice hat Paulie
Paulie Malignaggi will face Juan Diaz on HBO this Saturday from the Toyota Center in Houston. As Cov says, “It’s put up or shut up time for Paulie Malignaggi.” Literally. The big mouth from Brooklyn teased NY boxing fans with promise after a tough loss to Miguel Cotto in 2006. Since then, “Magic Man” (26-2) has disappointed in several slim victories and a poor showing against Ricky Hatton.  In the other corner, Juan Diaz (34-2) has also struggled but has shown more heart than Malignaggi. In 2 of his last 3 fights, “Baby Bull” has been on the losing end. His last fight against Mayweather’s next opponent, Juan Manuel Marquez was a true battle but Diaz was tko’s in the 9th. Both fighters will attempt to scratch their way back into the light welterweight picture and a loss here would be devastating. I like Diaz, fighting in his hometown, in a full 12. Who ya got?

  1. MY LORD. Heard the news this morning…I want to slap Favre across the face. W.T.F. Vick, too, for that matter.

  2. you sound like a Packers fan. Or a Giants fan.

  3. Hey! Leave the Giants fans out of it. Worry about your bungles and the great start you are off to with Palmer. We’ll revisit your sleeper comments at a later time. Now to the article. Favre was bullshittin the whole time to sit out training camp. Obviously the Vikings knew since they are starting him in the next game! I’ll just make a ridiculous prediction and say Vick will be starting by the end of the year and maybe next year. Wild card race…. don’t care anymore. Malignaggi looks like a fuckin tool in that picture. I’m out!

  4. I am with Joey on Farve master planning all along to weasel his way out of training camp… Dude is so full of shit… Vick will not be starting but will make things interesting in a wildcat/spread formation a couple times a game, plus take pressure off of mister winded… Don’t look now but the Rocks and Giants are 3.5 and 4.5 back respectively… look out doyers…. They are battling for the NL West now….. I’m going Diaz with the home field advanatage 11th KO….
