Thats what you would expect after Miguel Cotto’s slim victory over Ghana native Joshua Clottey, successfully defending his WBO welterweight title. (Isn’t it funny how Clottey, from Ghana, can speak English without a translator but Antonio Margarito can’t speak a lick of English even though he’s from Torrance? Maybe its just me or maybe Tony just wants to keep his Mexican street cred.)

Manny Pacquiao sat next to Top Rank promoter Bob Arum during the Cotto fight which makes me think Arum’s got something up his sleeve. With a Cotto win, Top Rank has a clear-cut goal for the upcoming months. The boxing public wants to see Pacman fight the best and right now, with Mayweather’s unpredictable future and Antonio Margarito’s exposure last  February, Cotto is the best in the welterweight division. Even if Marquez can do the unthinkable against Floyd Mayweather, nobody would complain about a Pacquiao - Cotto matchup.

Latest News - Juan “Baby Bull” Diaz (32-2) is scheduled to take on flamboyant Brooklynite Paul “Magic Man” Malignaggi (25-2) in Diaz’s hometown of Houston, TX.  Both fighters are working their way back to the top of the light welter division after recent setbacks. Before an impressive win against upcoming Mayweather opponent Juan Manuel Marquez, Diaz lost a sloppy split decision to Michael Katsidis. Magic Man suffered a knockout loss to Ricky Hatton before taking out Chris Fernandez in April. This should be a no-frills battle. A career crossroads for both fighters.

Stay tuned for the latest boxing updates. Its not like anyone else is covering the sport.

  2. Um, get your facts straight mister boxing writer dude. Juan Diaz lost to Marquez via TKO in the 9th and beat Katsidis by decision. You have your facts exactly assbackward. Also, saying Cotto is the number one welterweight given his last few performances is pretty naive. Ever hear of a guy called Shane Mosely? Geez, they let anybody post shit on the internet.

  3. Stick to horseracing and golf. There are plenty of web forums more capable of breaking down the fight scene.

  4. Nacho,

I smell a west coast bias. I was at the last 2 Mosley fights and he isnt the best. Took him 12 long rounds to knock out fat ass Mayorga in the weakest fight Ive ever been at - and Margarito is a hack. Cotto already beat Mosley just a year and a half ago. Pretty naive.

True, I did confuse the Diaz fights. A win to Katsidias followed by a loss to Marquez. Shit happens.

    Sincerely,
    Mister Boxing Writer Dude
