
Milan, Italy - With a 3-0 home win over lowly Siena, F.C. Internazionale Milano has captured its fourth consecutive Serie A title by securing their 81st league point. The “Scudetto” is the first for coach Jose Mourinho in his first year with the club. This is Inter Milan’s 17th title in the team’s 101 year history.
Inter will glady except an Italian League championship after a somewhat disappointing season overall, losing early in the Coppa Italia and making an untimely exit in the UEFA Champions League againt finalist Manchester United. Recent turmoil has tested the Milan side’s focus down the stretch after losing star Brazilian attackman Adriano in April and dealing with controversial comments made by leading goalscorer Zlatan Ibrahimovic towards Inter fans as well as the club’s success.
Mourinho’s next goal is to sign Genoa striker Diego Milito who has racked up 20 goals on the season. Just as necessary is the squad’s ability to secure the services of Ibra who has garnered the interests of Europe’s best paid clubs including Real Madrid and Barcelona after finding the net 22 times this season. Ibrahohimovic has already expressed supreme interest in winning a Champions League title which could be a deciding factor on his future plans. All the while, rumors continue on the liklihood that midfielder Luis Figo will retire after this year. Inter will have to find a way to fill that hole as well as the void left in Adriano’s absence.
With only 2 games remaining on the schedule AC Milan, Juventus and Fiorentina will battle for runner up, currently seperated by only 4 points.
