Manny Ramirez

Los Angeles, CA - Just when all seemed to be a little too perfect in Hollywood, we find out that it really is. Manny Ramirez’s shocking move to Los Angeles from Boston went through last season without a wrinkle for either team and the honeymoon has continued into the early 2009 season. That is…until Thursday.

While new Red Sox outfielder Jason Bay remains as red hot as the BoSox’s god awful alternate jersey, Manny Ramirez will serve a 50-game suspension for testing positive for HCG (human chorionic gonadotropin), a banned substance which is used as a women’s fertility drug. HCG has become popular with Roid-heads as it is known to aid against the side effects of steroids.

Manny gave the usual story…it wasn’t steroids, it was something else. Baseball fans have heard it before and I’d guess that most of them aren’t biting. I’m not. I’m sure we’ll see the “Believe in Manny” signs at Chavez Ravine in the coming days. Boo-hoo. Manny won’t get my sympathy when he is docked $1.7 million in annual salary. He will survive and baseball gets a tipped cap for holding strong on their long overdue drug policy. Ramirez is scheduled to return to the Los Angeles Dodgers on July 3rd.

New York Yankee’s third baseman Alex Rodriguez must be feeling pretty good right now. After smacking a home run on the very first pitch he saw since returning to the Yankees starting lineup on Friday, the third baseman is  joined by another supposedly “clean” superstar in Ramirez on the long list of performance-enhancing abusers. A-Rod will still get his share of boo’s and whatever else road fans want to dish out but you know what they say…”misery loves company.”  The San Francisco Giants are now officially the most exciting team in the woeful NL West. Sorry Blue.
