Just some thoughts on the upcoming weekend in sports…

  • Let’s face it…if Tiger Woods was still sitting at home rehabbing his knee, no one would be talking about this week’s WCG-Accenture Match Play Championship in Marana, Arizona. But the PGA’s cash cow is back , after an 8 month hiatus, in usual form and the sport has my attention pre-Master’s Tournament for the first time ever. A win here and its only a matter of time before the steroids rumors began to swirl around. I’m just sayin…
  • UCONN coach Jim Calhoun won his 800th game last night when the #2 Huskies’ beat #10 Marquette in Milwaukee. UCONN can expect to move back into the top spot in national rankings as current #1 Pittsburgh lost to Providence earlier in the week. Can anybody understand what Jim Calhoun is saying? Ever? All I know is that my television’s closed caption read…”What the fu**?”  last night during his post-game press conference.  I feel ya, closed caption.
  • Fight fans, dont’ forget about the free fight on HBO this Saturday night. Juan Diaz (33-1, 17KOs) will take on Juan Manuel Marquez (47-3-1, 35 KOs) in a lightweight battle from the Toyota Center in Houston, TX. Which Juan will win? Sorry, had to do it.
  • The Detroit Pistons have lost 8 games in a row, making Chauncey Billups look pretty damn good right now. Things don’t get any easier for AI and company as the team will have to travel to Orlando and Boston this weekend.
  • Yesterday’s signing of New York Giants’ running back Brandon Jacobs to a $25 million, 4 year contact leaves the question…what do you do with Derrick Ward? Big Blue fans might have to settle for a Earth and Fire, without the Wind next season.

  1. Anyone catch Calhoun telling that reporter to shut up? Great stuff. Hopefully Coors Light can switch over to college ball and use that. As for the Giants, we knew we wouldn’t keep Ward. Today’s day and age of money first will send him to a new team. We wish him well. Bradshaw will do just fine. And as for Jacobs’ comments about Plax and thinking he will be back…. we’ll just see on that one.

  2. So no mention at all about the start of FA signings for Football? I heard Ward is going to the Browns…..

  3. Nice job of covering Tiger.

  4. I havent seen the Calhoun outburst but not surprised to hear. No-name reporters trying to make a name for themselves, and Calhoun being his usual brash self
