Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao dominated Oscar De La Hoya to the point of submission after 8 rounds of boxing at the MGM Grand Garden Arena Friday Night in Las Vegas. It truly was an embarrassing defeat for DLH. There is no point in me rehashing the details of the fight. DE LA HOYA GOT HIS ASS HANDED TO HIM THOROUGHLY.

There really is nothing else to say. Many saw DLH as taking the easy way out, taking the fight with Pacquiao as opposed to the winner of the Cotto-Margarito fight, none other than Tijuana Tornado himself, Tony Margarito. Pacman showed the world that it’s clearly time for Oscar to retire and focus solely his efforts on promotion of boxing events. At a time when MMA events, particularly UFC, are growing in popularity, boxing needs to make sure it protects itself by providing fans with the best fights possible. Golden Boy Promotions is a growing promotional company that should only grow with DLH focusing solely on running his business. Many Golden Boy fighters like De La Hoya, Bernard Hopkins, Shane Mosely and Ricky Hatton are aging and the company soon will need to further scour the crop for the best available young up-and-coming talent to keep fights fun and fans fired-up.

Anyway, on to the future: Floyd Mayweather Jr vs. Manny Pacquiao?
Several sources close to Floyd Mayweather Jr. say the currently retired and former top pound for pound fighter in the world is planning to come out of retirement in 2009 for an ultimate showdown with Pacquiao.

THIS FIGHT MUST ME MADE! It’s a no-brainer. IT WILL BE AN ALL-TIME GREAT POUND-FOR-POUND SHOWDOWN!!  And I will do whatever it takes to attend that fight!

  1. I think the emphasis needs to be the lack of heart shown by De La Hoya in this fight. He stole a credible KO from Pacman by quitting when he did. He didn’t want to be embarrassed by the smaller fighter when his paycheck was already in hand.

Typical of this guy. He has no heart, no pride and now no chance of making money off this fight fan anytime in the future. You hear that De La Little Boya? You just got black-listed!

It’s too bad though. This was the one guy who could get a bar in PB to show a boxing match…and now he’s finished. The sport of boxing is in serious trouble in this country.

  2. Boxing is dead and Oscar killed it. They took us for suckas, and I say they because Manny was in on it too! This fight was about money and nothing else to them. I truly hope Antonio can give the sport some life back because Manny already fell in the money trap and I will not be surprised if he is a Golden Boy Fighter in the near future. They laughed at every boxing fans face, there is no way Oscar had no answer for any of Manny’s punches its just not possible. Can you trust boxing? Is there a bright star lurking in the slums of TJ, waiting for that one fight to spark what was once a sport we anxiously anticipated to hear the announcement of the next big fight? Or is it truly dead and become and B list Olympic sport? This fan will take a leave of absence be at the MMA arena waiting…
